Deliverer: Diego “Chico” Corrales

Harrowing and ghastly was the abrupt end of this last throwback.
In his name introductions indenturing a defiant postmortem impression
of a self-relishing curse and wicked bite, with the kind of jubilation
contorting his upper torso to shake uncontrollably as if possessed
by invasions of rattlesnakes laid before his rival’s eyes
to witness right across the ring.

Oscar De La Hoya to team up with renowned trainer Freddie Roach for May 5th Super Fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr.
LOS ANGELES, January 30 After much deliberation, WBC super welterweight champion Oscar De La Hoya has decided that the man to lead him into battle against Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 5th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas is the 2003 Boxing Writers Association of Americas Trainer of the Year and the leading candidate for the honor again this year, Freddie Roach.
Freddie and I have known each other for many years, and I am very happy that at this point in my career he has accepted my offer to be my trainer, said De La Hoya. I felt very humbled by the fact that many great trainers reached out and offered their services, but after sitting down with Freddie, I quickly realized that this is the man I want to have in my corner come May 5th. Freddies accomplishments speak for themselves, and I look forward to working with him and getting in the best shape of my career to conquer yet another challenge.

Pacquiao still uncertain about his political plans
By NICK GIONGCO
HERE'S A piece of news on Manny Pacquiao that may be good or bad, depending on one's perspective.
When asked yesterday about whether he would seek public office or not, Pacquiao said he hasn't made up, which means the boxing icon may still throw his gloves into the political ring.
"I don't have to rush these things," Pacquiao told the Bulletin yesterday afternoon from General Santos City when asked about reports that he is either being pushed for mayor or congressman. "I really have to think about it before making a decision."
A Pacquiao insider who requested anonymity because he was not allowed to disclose the boxer's plans, said that Pacquiao "is being pressured by Malacañang to run."

Margarito agrees to Cotto fight!
World Welterweight Champion Antonio Margarito has agreed to take on two-time world champion Miguel Cotto on a Top Rank mega event June 9 at Madison Square Garden. Bob Arum of Top Rank and Team Margarito made the announcement today. "This is the biggest fight out there for me," Margarito said. "I am anxious to get into the ring against Cotto." Margarito, the 'Tijuana Tornado' with a record of 34-4 with 24 knockouts, is presently out with an injury in his right wrist. Margarito, managed by Sergio Diaz and Francisco Espinoza, will attend the Miguel Cotto vs. Oktay Urkal WBA world welterweight championship fight on March 3 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. If Cotto wins, a formal Cotto vs. Margarito announcement will be made that night.
Margarito-Williams purse bid!
Goossen Tutor outbids Golden Boy
The purse bid for the WBO welterweight mandatory title defense of Antonio Margarito against unbeaten challenger Paul Williams took place today at WBO headquarters in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Goossen Tutor was the winner with a purse offer of $1,506,250, outbidding Golden Boy Promotions at $1,444,444. The proposed site for the contest will be in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, or Washington, D.C. with a proposed date "no sooner than 45 days after Antonio Margarito is medically cleared to fight and no later than 120 days after Margarito is medically cleared to fight." Promoter Dan Goossen must now contact each fighter's manager for the bout agreement that must be signed no later than 4:00PM Pacific Standard Time on Friday, February 2, 2007.
It's unlikely the fight betweeen Margarito and Williams will take place, however, as an announcement was made last night by Top Rank that Margarito plans to challenge Miguel Cotto for the WBA belt next, should Cotto defeat Oktay Urkal as expected on March 3.
