Pacquiao still uncertain about his political plans
By NICK GIONGCO

HERE'S A piece of news on Manny Pacquiao that may be good or bad, depending on one's perspective.

When asked yesterday about whether he would seek public office or not, Pacquiao said he hasn't made up, which means the boxing icon may still throw his gloves into the political ring.

"I don't have to rush these things," Pacquiao told the Bulletin yesterday afternoon from General Santos City when asked about reports that he is either being pushed for mayor or congressman. "I really have to think about it before making a decision."

A Pacquiao insider who requested anonymity because he was not allowed to disclose the boxer's plans, said that Pacquiao "is being pressured by Malacañang to run."

In the event Pacquiao goes for the mayoralty, he will be up against incumbent General Santos Mayor Pedro Acharon Jr., who is his wedding godparent and a long-time supporter. If Pacquiao aims for a Congress seat, he will have to deal with another incumbent, Darlene Antonino-Custodio, who belongs to the very influential Antonino clan of South Cotabato.

But while there&Mac226;s a bright side to Pacquiao&Mac226;s decision to remain undecided about his political plans, his boxing future remains up in the air. The contract for his coming fight remained unsigned making his promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank a bit nervous.

Arum has been waiting for Pacquiao to show up in Los Angeles the past several days. It appears he will have to wait at least one more week as Pacquiao is expected to leave Manila not earlier than Feb. 5. Arum told boxingtalk.net that "I am waiting to meet Manny and I want to make sure that everyone is totally on the same page."

Arum is refering to his proposal for Pacquiao to face Korean Injin Chi on April 28 in Macau and "once I get that signed, I am planning on going to Macau the day after Super Bowl (on Feb. 5)."

Pacquiao was supposed to fly to the US last week and there are reports that he will do so tonight although he bared that he is eyeing to leave for the States "in the first week of February."

"Sa Macau ang laban ko at si Injin Chi siguro ang kalaban," said Pacquiao to quell rumors that the
newly-built Wynn Casino and Hotel is not ready to host a fight there.
